Damascus, Syria – A state of high alert prevailed in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Thursday evening, following a powerful explosion that rocked a vital area in the heart of the city.

The incident resulted in a number of casualties and injuries.

Details of the incident and the victims

Dr. Ahmed Al-Bakour, Director of Ambulance and Emergency Services at the Syrian Ministry of Health,

announced that medical teams responded immediately to the accident that occurred on Al-Nasr Street.

Al-Bakour explained that the initial death toll was four, in addition to ten injuries of varying severity.

All the injured were transferred to Al-Mujtahid Hospital in Damascus to receive the necessary treatment.

In a related context, Al-Bakour indicated that one additional injured person was

transferred to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Hospital to receive emergency care.

This brings the total number of registered injuries to eleven.

Explosion site and initial reports

The explosion occurred in a crowded area in the heart of Damascus,

specifically near the Palace of Justice on Nasr Street.

Field sources and local media reported hearing the blast across a wide area.

The incident caused widespread panic among residents.

Meanwhile, social media users shared videos documenting the aftermath of the explosion.

The videos indicated that the incident took place inside a popular, crowded café on the aforementioned street.

Initial footage also showed several injured patrons.

Mystery surrounds the cause and the investigations

As of the time of this report, the cause of the explosion remains unknown.

No official statement has been issued by Syrian authorities or security agencies clarifying the nature of the explosion,

whether it was caused by an explosive device, a technical malfunction, or an accident.

Civil defense and ambulance teams are continuing their search operations in the vicinity of the site,

which is under a security cordon established by the relevant authorities

to ensure public safety and facilitate the work of the rescue teams.

The search continues while awaiting an official report detailing the circumstances and precise details of the incident.

The public in Damascus is closely monitoring any official updates regarding this security incident,

which has reignited tensions in the heart of the capital.
