Brussels, Belgium – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced €100 million in humanitarian aid to support displaced people in Lebanon. At the same time, she stressed the need to implement the terms of the framework agreement in a way that strengthens Lebanese sovereignty.
European aid for displaced people
Von der Leyen confirmed that the European Union will allocate €100 million in humanitarian aid for displaced people in Lebanon. This comes as part of efforts to alleviate the humanitarian situation and support those affected.
Supporting the implementation of the framework agreement
Von der Leyen stressed that the next stage after the framework agreement requires work to disarm non-governmental groups. Thus, this contributes to strengthening state authority and establishing stability.
Affirming Lebanon’s sovereignty
Von der Leyen stressed the importance of preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She also noted that the European Union supports all steps that strengthen state institutions and promote security and stability in the country.
