Washington, DC – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed that the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel establishes a clear and structured process aimed at restoring Lebanese sovereignty.
This includes the disarmament of Hezbollah and the dismantling of its military infrastructure,
within the framework of new US-sponsored security arrangements.
Restoring the sovereignty of the Lebanese state
Rubio explained that the agreement establishes a structured mechanism
to strengthen the authority of the Lebanese state over all its territory.
This includes ending the presence of weapons outside the framework of official institutions,
as well as supporting efforts to extend the authority of the Lebanese army to border areas.
Ensuring Israel’s security
Rubio noted that the agreement would enable Israel to return to its borders
once the security threats facing its citizens were eliminated.
He emphasized that the security arrangements included in the agreement
aim to achieve stability and prevent renewed clashes on the border.
US support for implementing the agreement
Rubio emphasized the United States’ commitment to supporting the implementation of
the framework agreement and keeping pace with its various stages.
He considered its success an important step toward strengthening security and stability in the region,
and one that opens the door to a new phase of de-escalation between Lebanon and Israel.
