Beirut, Lebanon – Reflecting the importance of the new political and security phase, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the signing of the framework agreement with Israel as a “first step” in Lebanon’s journey to restore its full sovereignty over all its territories. These statements underscored the commitment of the Lebanese state to continue working tirelessly to consolidate its authority and extend its influence across the entire national soil.

A Pledge to Restore Full Sovereignty

The Lebanese President emphasized that the agreement is not an end in itself, but rather the beginning of a phase aimed at embodying the full and complete sovereignty of the Lebanese state. Using language that reflected an official pledge, Aoun reaffirmed the authorities’ determination to proceed with implementing the obligations associated with this agreement, noting that the state’s commitments remain a priority until the ultimate goal of establishing national sovereignty is achieved.

Prioritizing the Return of Citizens and Stability

Regarding the humanitarian and social file, the Lebanese President placed the return of displaced persons to their areas at the forefront of priorities, considering the framework agreement a fundamental pillar to enable the Lebanese to return to their liberated lands and homes. Aoun expressed his hope that these understandings would contribute to turning the page on instability and restoring calm to areas that suffered from the conflict, emphasizing that the coming phase will require intensified political and security efforts to ensure the precise implementation of the agreement’s terms.

Appreciation for Regional and International Support

The diplomatic dimension was central to the President’s address, as he extended his thanks to the brotherly and friendly nations that supported the Lebanese position during the “difficult and complex” negotiation process. He asserted that this international and regional support was an influential factor in reaching the framework agreement. This development comes amidst broad regional and international attention, as observers bet that this path could open the door to security and political arrangements that contribute to consolidating stability in Lebanon and the region as a whole.
