Islamabad, Pakistan – During a session at the UN Security Council, Pakistan emphasized that achieving sustainable peace in conflict zones requires the systematic and safe inclusion of women in negotiation and decision-making processes. Islamabad stated that excluding women from mediation paths directly weakens the prospects of reaching long-term solutions to international crises.
Women’s Participation as a Pillar of Sustainable Peace
The Pakistani representative stressed in his speech to the Council that women’s participation must not be merely symbolic. Instead, it must be active and influential at all stages of peace processes, ranging from initial negotiations to the implementation of agreements on the ground.
The representative added that international experience has proven that involving women in settlement paths clearly contributes to strengthening stability. This approach also helps reduce the likelihood of conflict recurrence, calling on the international community to support this trend more broadly and seriously to ensure greater effectiveness.
The Women, Peace, and Security Agenda
This Pakistani call comes within the framework of ongoing discussions within the corridors of the United Nations regarding the “Women, Peace, and Security Agenda.” These demands are gaining increasing importance in light of the escalation of conflicts in several regions around the world and the urgent need to find new approaches that ensure the inclusivity of peace processes.
