Moscow, Russia – Russian authorities have announced a new set of measures to regulate air traffic in Moscow and several surrounding areas.
These measures are part of their efforts to counter the increasing
number of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting locations deep inside Russia in recent months.
Restrictions on light aircraft and drones
The Russia Federal Air Transport Agency explained that the new measures
include restrictions on the movement of light and ultra-light aircraft and drones.
The measures also include setting a minimum flight altitude of 5,200 meters,
a level that most of these aircraft cannot reach.
The agency confirmed that these measures are part of a security plan.
The plan aims to reduce the risks posed by the use of drones in attacks on civilian and military targets within Russian territory.
Scope of application of the procedures
According to Russia authorities, the new restrictions will be implemented in Moscow,
as well as the Ryazan, Tula, Kaluga, Tver, Yaroslavl,
and Vladimir regions. However, the level of restrictions will vary between these regions.
The measures are scheduled to take effect on June 20. This is part of efforts
to strengthen air defense and air protection systems for vital areas.
Continuation of commercial flights
The Russia Federal Air Transport Agency confirmed that scheduled passenger flights,
as well as charter flights, will continue to operate normally without being affected by the new measures.
This move comes as Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russian facilities, particularly oil refineries and defense industry installations.
Ukraine is also benefiting from the development of domestically produced drones
and missiles capable of reaching distant targets within Russian territory, as Kyiv has announced on previous occasions.
