Paris, France – US sources have revealed that US President Donald Trump does not intend to hold a formal bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, despite the two leaders participating in a joint working session during the summit.
According to US administration officials, Trump’s schedule includes a series of bilateral meetings with several leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and leaders from the Middle East and Asia. However, no one-on-one meeting with the Ukrainian president is currently on the agenda. The sources indicated that an informal meeting between the two sides remains a possibility on the sidelines of the summit, but it has not been included in the official program.
This development comes as Kyiv seeks to bolster Western political and military support in its confrontation with Russia, amidst the ongoing war and its entry into a critical phase marked by escalating field and economic challenges. Ukrainian officials are also awaiting the US administration’s stance on the future of aid and support in the coming period.
Observers believe the absence of a formal bilateral meeting may reflect continued differences in vision between Trump and Zelensky on several issues related to the war and the future of a settlement, despite Washington’s assurances that the Ukrainian issue will feature prominently on the summit’s agenda.
The G7 summit is expected to witness intensive discussions on the war in Ukraine, developments in the Middle East, energy security, global trade, and artificial intelligence, as major industrialized nations strive to coordinate their positions on escalating international crises.
