Gaza, Palestine – Two Palestinians were killed and several others were wounded on Monday in an Israeli airstrike targeting the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. This comes amid ongoing intensive military operations in various parts of the Strip.
Local sources reported that the airstrike occurred suddenly in the vicinity of populated areas and tents sheltering displaced people. The attack resulted in civilian casualties, including some critical cases. Panic gripped the residents of the targeted area.
Sources added that ambulance and civil defense teams rushed to the bombing site immediately after it occurred. These teams worked to recover bodies and evacuate the wounded to field hospitals and nearby medical facilities. This was done under difficult conditions that hampered rescue operations due to the intensity of the bombing and a shortage of equipment.
They indicated that hospitals in the southern Gaza Strip received increasing numbers of wounded. This occurred amidst immense pressure on medical staff who are suffering from shortages of medicines and basic supplies. This exacerbates the difficulty of dealing with critical cases.
The Al-Mawasi area is densely populated with displaced people. It has been subjected to repeated attacks in recent times. As a result, the number of casualties has risen, and the humanitarian crisis in the southern Gaza Strip has worsened amid the ongoing military escalation.
