Kuwait – The Kuwaiti Directorate General of Civil Aviation announced Saturday morning the full resumption of air traffic in the country. This followed a temporary, two-hour precautionary closure of airspace. The decision came after a state of high alert in the country earlier that morning due to missile and drone attacks.

Air defenses intercept

In the same context, the Kuwaiti Army General Staff confirmed that the country’s air defense systems successfully intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks.

The General Staff reassured citizens and residents that any sounds of explosions heard in the air are a normal result of air defense interceptions of hostile targets. It urged everyone to remain calm and strictly adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities in the country.

Civil aviation procedures

According to an official statement issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and published by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Kuwaiti airspace was temporarily closed from 4:15 a.m. to 6:15 a.m. on Saturday. This precautionary measure was taken to ensure airspace safety.

The Directorate explained that it immediately activated its approved emergency plans. Eleven commercial flights operated by Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways were diverted to neighboring regional airports. This was done to ensure the safety of passengers and aircrews and to guarantee the continuity of operations in accordance with the highest security standards.

Following close coordination with the relevant authorities and confirmation that the situation had stabilized and the threats had subsided, it was decided to resume air traffic and receive flights as normal starting at 6:15 AM.

The authority confirmed that operations proceeded according to the planned schedule. Flights that had been diverted to Dammam and Riyadh airports in Saudi Arabia were also immediately returned to Kuwait International Airport to complete their regular routes.

This swift response reflects the ability of Kuwaiti institutions to handle urgent security challenges. It also demonstrates the paramount importance placed on the safety of civilians and vital infrastructure. The relevant authorities continue to closely monitor the situation on the ground to ensure the security and stability of the nation. Official calls have also been issued urging citizens to obtain information from official sources and to avoid rumors that could disrupt public order.
