  • What is a hackathon?
  • The most prominent features of the hackathon

Dubai, UAE – The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in cooperation with 42 Abu Dhabi Academy, launched a hackathon specialized in agent artificial intelligence (agentic AI). To develop innovative technical solutions that contribute to raising the efficiency of government services and accelerating procedures in the energy, infrastructure, transportation and housing sectors. Supporting the UAE’s efforts to build a more flexible and proactive digital government.

The hackathon is part of the Ministry’s efforts to employ and enable modern technologies, artificial intelligence and open innovation within the system of working in integration and cooperation with leading academic bodies in the field. Developing the government work system in line with government directives, by attracting programmers, developers, entrepreneurs and young competencies. Providing them with the opportunity to develop practical solutions that address real challenges in the Ministry’s sectors and contribute to enhancing the quality of life and the sustainability of infrastructure and vital services in the UAE.

The hackathon will focus on developing innovative technical projects and models through a competitive environment that combines technical and cognitive expertise, and under the supervision of specialists and experts from both sides. With awards and incentives allocated to winning projects and the most distinctive, applicable and adoptable ideas at the government level. To support the development of implementable solutions that contribute to accelerating government digital transformation and enhancing the efficiency of institutional performance.

What is a hackathon?

Hackathon (Hackathon) is a combination of the words “hacker” (Hacker) which here refers to an accomplished programmer or developer, and “marathon” (Marathon) which means endurance race.

It is a competitive technology event where programmers, designers, and entrepreneurs meet for a short period of time (usually 24 to 72 hours) for intensive collaboration with the goal of innovating and developing software, technical solutions, or hardware to address specific challenges.

The most prominent features of the hackathon

  • Focus on teamwork: Diverse work teams are formed that include developers, designers, and project managers to integrate ideas.
  • Compressed time frame: Puts participants under time pressure to quickly innovate and turn an idea into a viable project.
  • Open innovation: It is not limited to technology companies only, but is organized by governments, universities, and health institutions to solve real-world problems.
