What is a hackathon?
Hackathon (Hackathon) is a combination of the words “hacker” (Hacker) which here refers to an accomplished programmer or developer, and “marathon” (Marathon) which means endurance race.
It is a competitive technology event where programmers, designers, and entrepreneurs meet for a short period of time (usually 24 to 72 hours) for intensive collaboration with the goal of innovating and developing software, technical solutions, or hardware to address specific challenges.
The most prominent features of the hackathon
- Focus on teamwork: Diverse work teams are formed that include developers, designers, and project managers to integrate ideas.
- Compressed time frame: Puts participants under time pressure to quickly innovate and turn an idea into a viable project.
- Open innovation: It is not limited to technology companies only, but is organized by governments, universities, and health institutions to solve real-world problems.
