Moscow, Russia – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed hundreds of Ukrainian drones targeting several regions within Russian territory. This operation represents one of the largest waves of drone attacks in recent times.
In an official statement, the ministry explained that air defense forces successfully shot down 348 Ukrainian drones after detecting them flying over various Russian regions and provinces. It also confirmed that early warning and detection units engaged the aerial targets according to established military procedures.
The statement added that the counter-attack operations were carried out in successive stages. In each stage, different defense systems participated in intercepting the drones before they reached their intended targets. However, the ministry did not disclose details of all the sites that were attacked or the extent of the resulting damage.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between Moscow and Kyiv, particularly with the continued exchange of airstrikes. Attacks using drones, which have become a prominent tool of warfare in the ongoing conflict between the two sides, also continue.
Recent months have witnessed a significant increase in the use of long-range drones. This is occurring amidst mutual attempts to target military sites and vital infrastructure, further complicating the situation on the ground. This opens the door to the possibility of a new escalation in the course of the war.
