  • Complex Obstacles Challenge Principles Pact as US Signals Military Options
  • International Anticipation for Talks as Regional Mediators Race to Avert Escalation

Tehran, Iran – Iranian media quoted a source close to the negotiating team stating that the ongoing talks in the capital, Tehran, have achieved tangible progress on several tabled issues. However, the source cautioned that reaching a definitive and comprehensive agreement remains entirely subject to resolving all outstanding disputed matters among the concerned parties. The source described the current atmosphere as “cautious.”

The negotiations have witnessed intense momentum in recent days following diplomatic disclosures regarding a draft “Declaration of Principles.” This draft establishes a phased link between Iran handing over its enriched uranium stockpile and the gradual lifting of economic sanctions. As a result, this arrangement effectively helped align viewpoints on specific technical arrangements and mutual enforcement mechanisms.

Complex Obstacles Challenge Principles Pact as US Signals Military Options

The source explained that critical core portfolios remain unresolved, preventing the conclusion of an agreement at this stage. Chief among these are the intricate details of sanctions relief and strict monitoring mechanisms. The future of the highly enriched uranium file—which Tehran previously declared premature to settle—and mutual security guarantees for maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz remain issues. These are a primary sticking point in the talks.

These remarks coincide with harsh international pressure, as the American website “Axios” recently revealed that President Donald Trump is seriously considering alternative scenarios. Among these, he is considering targeted, precision military strikes against vital Iranian strategic and nuclear facilities if the diplomatic path reaches a complete deadlock. This situation places regional stability at stake.

International Anticipation for Talks as Regional Mediators Race to Avert Escalation

The ongoing negotiations are under intense international and regional scrutiny, driven by growing anxieties over the fallout of a potential collapse on Middle Eastern stability. Additionally, there are major concerns about catastrophic disruptions to global energy security and international shipping lanes through vital straits.

Observers note that the continuation of dialogue and discussions over the “Declaration of Principles” underscores a mutual desire to avoid direct military confrontation, despite the complexity of the issues and Washington’s explicit threats. If the general principles are approved, negotiators are expected to transition within a week into a final 30-day detailed round. This will aim to resolve all remaining files.
