Washington – United States of America: The US Department of State has escalated its rhetoric regarding the political situation in Lebanon, emphasizing that factions supporting Hezbollah within the country contribute to disrupting the path of political and economic stability, and hinder the recovery efforts that Lebanon needs to emerge from its accumulated crises.
The State Department pointed out that Lebanon is passing through a delicate phase that requires a broad national consensus and serious reform measures in order to rebuild state institutions and restore internal and external confidence, stressing that the continuation of political divisions and the overlap of regional agendas place additional obstacles ahead of any movements aimed at achieving sustainable stability.
Continuous International Monitoring of Developments Amid Unprecedented Economic and Financial Crises
It added that the international community is still closely monitoring developments in Lebanon, especially in light of the unprecedented economic and financial crises that have cast shadows over various sectors, including basic services, infrastructure, and living standards, a matter that has increased pressures on citizens.
Demands for Practical Steps to Support the Sovereignty of Lebanese State Institutions
Washington also stressed that the coming phase requires practical steps that support the sovereignty of Lebanese state institutions and pave the way for a more stable environment allowing the launch of reform and developmental programs, noting that any delay in implementing reforms or the continuation of the political stalemate could negatively reflect on the country’s recovery chances.
These statements come at a time when the Lebanese landscape is witnessing intertwined political, security, and economic challenges, amid the continuation of regional and international efforts aimed at supporting Lebanon’s stability and preventing the worsening of conditions during the coming period.
