Jerusalem, Palestine — Eight Arab and Islamic nations issued a joint statement rejecting Israel’s E1 settlement plan east of occupied East Jerusalem. Foreign ministers from the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey emphasized that ongoing settlement activities violate international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The diplomats warned that implementing the E1 project represents a dangerous escalation that directly threatens regional stability. The collective action reflects growing international concern over unilateral measures altering territorial dynamics.
Threat to Geographical Contiguity and Two-State Viability
The foreign ministers highlighted that the E1 plan threatens to sever geographical contiguity between the West Bank and East Jerusalem. They noted that accelerated settlement construction and annexation policies systematically dismantle the requirements for an independent, viable Palestinian state based on 1967 borders.
Furthermore, the joint statement stressed that unilateral attempts to alter the legal and historical status of occupied Palestinian territories undermine peace prospects. The participating nations warned that these measures destabilize broader regional security framework.
Condemnation of Settler Violence and International Frameworks
Participating diplomats also condemned violence and attacks committed by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and properties. They reiterated that such actions cannot diminish the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination with East Jerusalem as their capital.
Finally, the eight nations urged the international community to take effective action to halt settlement expansion. They called for strict adherence to international legal references to preserve the viability of a lasting two-state solution.
