US Vice President JD Vance stated that Iran cannot be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon, emphasizing that this position represents a fundamental constant in US policy toward the Iranian nuclear file, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two sides.
Progress in the Negotiation Track and Indications of Iranian Willingness
Vance explained during a press conference that the United States has made significant progress in talks related to Iran, noting that there are indications of an Iranian desire to reach an agreement. However, he stressed that this desire cannot be certain until an actual signing of a final and binding agreement is reached.
He added that Washington has made clear to Tehran all the warnings and red lines related to the nuclear program, calling on Iran to approach the negotiations in “good faith.” He pointed out that the Iranian positions seem conflicting, and that the political leadership in Tehran is suffering from a state of division, which reflects on the course of the negotiations.
Military Option and Mutual Pressure to Prevent a Nuclear Race
The US Vice President indicated that President Donald Trump prefers the continuation of the negotiation path but insists on dealing with it firmly, explaining at the same time that the option of resuming military operations remains on the table if a satisfactory agreement is not reached.
Vance asserted that the United States refuses to see any nuclear race in the world, stressing that Washington does not want war, but he said that the nature of the current phase requires continuous political and diplomatic pressure to ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon.
