  • Exacerbating Humanitarian Suffering and Power Struggles
  • Confidence-Building and Reconstruction

New York – The Arab Group at the United Nations Security Council has reaffirmed its categorical rejection of all forms of foreign interference in Syrian domestic affairs. During a Security Council session dedicated to discussing developments in the crisis, the group emphasized that ongoing external and regional interventions directly hinder any serious political process and further complicate the long-standing Syrian file.

The joint Arab statement clarified that any resolution to the crisis cannot be imposed from the outside; rather, it must stem from the will of the Syrian people themselves, within a framework that fully respects the state’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, under the exclusive auspices of the United Nations.

Exacerbating Humanitarian Suffering and Power Struggles

The Arab Group pointed out that past field experiences have proven that the multiplicity of foreign powers competing on the ground has yielded nothing but:

  • Further Humanitarian Deterioration: Escalating suffering for civilians and a rise in displacement.
  • International Power Struggles: Turning Syrian territories into an arena for settling geopolitical scores instead of focusing on a genuine political resolution.

Confidence-Building and Reconstruction

Arab nations called for intensifying international efforts to support confidence-building steps among the concerned parties and to establish the necessary security and political environment for the voluntary return of refugees. Furthermore, they stressed the urgency of launching a comprehensive reconstruction process, asserting that Syria’s stability remains the fundamental pillar for safeguarding the peace and security of the entire Middle East in 2026.
