Paris, France — France’s Ministry of the Armed Forces announced that two military personnel sustained minor injuries when a light military training aircraft crashed in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France. Consequently, the single-engine aircraft came to rest on a regional road. Furthermore, the pilots successfully steered clear of populated residential areas, preventing civilian casualties or property damage.
Incident Details and Avoidance of Civilian Areas
The ministry specified that the Cirrus SR-20 aircraft was carrying an instructor and a student pilot on a routine training flight. Additionally, the aircraft experienced an in-flight emergency that forced it down onto the regional roadway.
Authorities highlighted that the pilots’ swift actions successfully diverted the plane away from nearby residential zones. Consequently, impact damage was limited to the aircraft itself alongside minor injuries to the two crew members.
Joint Investigation Launched into Cause of Crash
French authorities initiated a joint investigation to determine the exact circumstances and technical causes behind the crash. Additionally, the probe involves the government’s aviation safety investigation bureau working alongside the Air and Space Gendarmerie’s investigative branch.
Finally, investigators will examine the wreckage, review maintenance logs and flight data, and interview the crew. Ultimately, these measures aim to verify whether a mechanical failure or external flight conditions caused the accident.
