Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that the Lebanese state can only function through the decisions of its legitimate constitutional institutions and the arms of its army.
He also stressed the importance of consolidating state authority and confining security and military decisions to its official institutions.
Criticism of wars and escalation
In his remarks, Salam stated that Lebanon needs to restore internal stability and prioritize the national interest.
This comes amidst the delicate political and security circumstances facing the country and the region.
The Lebanese Prime Minister added, “We have had enough of these futile adventures and pointless wars,”
referring to the repercussions of the recent military confrontations and tensions in Lebanon,
which have resulted in human and material losses, as well as economic and humanitarian crises.
A discussion about the Israeli occupation
Salam noted that “it is regrettable that some call Israel’s occupation of more than 60 towns in southern Lebanon a victory.”
He also stressed that the continued occupation and attacks cannot be considered an achievement in any way.
Nawaf Salam’s statements come amid escalating internal debate in Lebanon regarding the future of the security and political situation.
This coincides with international efforts aimed at consolidating the cessation of hostilities
between Lebanon and Israel and preventing a renewed escalation on the southern border.
