Jerusalem, Palestine – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for the Palestinian Authority to be fully empowered to exercise its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip.

He emphasized that the unity of the Palestinian territories is a non-negotiable priority.

This comes amidst ongoing political efforts to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip following months of escalation and a complex humanitarian situation.

The importance of unifying institutions and ending the division

Abbas, in statements carried by Palestinian media, affirmed that the Palestinian Authority must assume

its responsibilities in Gaza as the internationally recognized legitimate authority.

He also stressed the importance of unifying Palestinian institutions and ending the division

that has negatively impacted the political, economic, and humanitarian situation in recent years.

The Palestinian president indicated that the current phase requires unified national action to safeguard Palestinian rights.

He also emphasized the necessity of working to rebuild the Gaza Strip and improve the living conditions of its residents.

This comes in parallel with ongoing political and diplomatic efforts aimed at halting the escalation and achieving stability.

The future of Gaza Strip administration

Abbas’s remarks come at a time when regional and international consultations are ongoing regarding the future administration of the Gaza Strip.

Several proposals are being put forward concerning governance mechanisms, administration, and reconstruction.

The Palestinian Authority also affirms its commitment to assuming full responsibility

for the Strip within the framework of a unified Palestinian state.

Observers believe that the Gaza issue will remain one of the most complex aspects of the Palestinian landscape.

The situation is further complicated by the ongoing internal division and security and political challenges.

In addition, there is increasing international pressure to push the Palestinian factions toward new arrangements.

These arrangements aim to ensure stability and rebuild institutions.

Abbas also stressed the importance of continued Arab and international support for the Palestinian people.

He called on the international community to intensify its efforts to support the peace process

and end the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
