Gaza, Palestine – The Executive Director of the Gaza Peace Council affirmed that the Council is focused on ensuring the success of the transitional phase in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that the primary objective is achieving stability and rebuilding institutions.
He clarified that achieving this is paramount, not engaging in acts of revenge or settling political scores.
The official stated that the continued existence of Hamas as an armed organization or militia possessing tunnels and a military infrastructure is “unacceptable and non-negotiable.”
He indicated that any future arrangements in Gaza must be based on civilian
and administrative foundations and must be free from weapons and armed factions.
Rejection of continued weapons and tunnels
The Executive Director of the Peace Council explained that the international community
and parties involved in the Gaza issue are striving to establish a new phase based on civil administration and reconstruction.
This phase also aims to improve humanitarian conditions, moving away from the militarization of the Gaza Strip.
He added that the continued presence of armed groups within Gaza hinders any efforts toward stability or development.
He emphasized the need to build institutions capable of managing the Strip within clear legal and administrative frameworks.
The official accused Hamas of tightening its grip on the areas it controls within the Gaza Strip.
He stated that Hamas imposes taxes and fees on the population despite the difficult humanitarian
and living conditions endured by the people of Gaza.
Readiness to take over management
He pointed out that the population is suffering from deteriorating economic conditions and a severe shortage of basic services.
He stressed that imposing further financial burdens only exacerbates the suffering of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The Executive Director affirmed that the National Committee of the Peace Council in Gaza is
“ready to enter and govern whenever the circumstances allow.”
He also explained that the Council has plans to manage the next phase in coordination with relevant parties.
He added that the goal is to restore stability and create the conditions for reconstruction and improving the humanitarian situation.
Furthermore, the Council is working to build institutions capable of meeting the needs of the population
and ensuring security and essential services within the Gaza Strip.
