Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump said he is “seriously” considering launching what he called “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz. He affirmed that the United States will continue to exert pressure on Iran until an agreement is reached.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump added that the US administration is proceeding with its strategy toward Tehran.
He also indicated that “the Iranian regime will collapse” if the economic and political pressure on it continues.
US escalation towards Iran
Trump explained that Washington would not allow freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to be threatened.
He emphasized that any potential US action in the region aims to protect international maritime security and ensure the stability of global energy supplies.
He noted that the United States is closely monitoring developments in the region,
particularly given the ongoing tensions related to the Iranian nuclear program and the escalating maritime tensions in the Gulf.
Continued pressure until an agreement is reached
The US president affirmed that the “maximum pressure” policy would continue until a new agreement with Iran is reached.
He noted that Washington seeks an agreement that guarantees security and stability and prevents what he described as “Iranian threats.”
Trump added that US sanctions and measures have “had a significant impact on the Iranian economy.”
He asserted that Tehran faces increasing challenges both domestically and internationally.
Escalating tensions in the region
Trump’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
This is particularly evident in the security of navigation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz,
one of the world’s most important oil shipping lanes.
Observers fear that these statements and the rapidly unfolding events could further increase regional tensions.
This comes as international efforts continue to contain the crisis and prevent the region from sliding into a wider conflict.
