Kathmandu, Nepal – A fire broke out on a Turkish Airlines plane at an airport in Nepal, prompting an emergency evacuation of passengers and crew. There were concerns the fire could spread to other parts of the aircraft.
Local authorities reported that the fire started suddenly while the plane was on the tarmac. Emergency and fire crews responded quickly to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of the passengers. The plane was carrying approximately 288 people.
Initial reports confirmed that the evacuation was carried out using emergency exits and air slides. This occurred amidst tension and confusion among the passengers. Ambulances and fire trucks rushed to the scene immediately after the incident was reported.
Airport sources indicated that rescue teams were able to control the fire within minutes of it breaking out. Some passengers were transported to receive medical attention for smoke inhalation and psychological distress. This occurred in addition to the panic that ensued during the incident.
Authorities have not yet revealed the definitive cause of the fire, but initial investigations suggest a technical malfunction or a problem with one of the aircraft’s systems. Meanwhile, specialists have begun examining the flight data recorder to determine the full circumstances.
The incident has reignited concerns about aviation safety and sudden technical failures, especially given the current surge in air travel in Asia. Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority has emphasized that the investigation will be conducted with complete transparency to ensure the causes of the incident are identified and to prevent any recurrence.
