Bamako – Security sources reported that approximately 50 people, including civilians and members of government-aligned self-defense forces, were killed following bloody attacks by Al-Qaeda-linked insurgents on two villages in central Mali. The attacks targeted areas experiencing escalating security tensions in recent months, driven by the increased activity of armed groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and ISIS across the Sahel region.

Escalating Violence and Targeting of Pro-Government Forces

According to sources, the militants carried out simultaneous raids using heavy and light weaponry, resulting in high casualty rates and spreading panic among local residents. The assaults targeted self-defense forces that support the Malian army in its fight against armed groups. Authorities continue to face growing challenges in establishing control over vast territories in the central and northern parts of the country.

Ongoing Security Crisis in the Sahel

Mali has faced worsening security instability for years due to the activities of militant groups, despite ongoing military operations by government forces. The violence has spilled over into neighboring Sahel countries, exacerbating the humanitarian and security situation and complicating regional efforts to restore stability and order.
