Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli military announced in an official statement on Sunday that it had carried out a series of focused field operations in southern Lebanon. These operations resulted in the elimination of Hezbollah operatives and the destruction of underground military infrastructure. This comes amid the ongoing escalation on the northern front.
The army spokesperson confirmed that forces killed two armed Hezbollah operatives. He claimed the strike came after they were spotted “active south of the front line.” According to the statement, they posed an immediate and direct threat to Israeli forces stationed in the area.
The statement added that aerial and field reconnaissance identified other armed men holed up inside buildings in the same sector. As a result, these developments prompted a subsequent airstrike that destroyed those targets after they were deemed an imminent security threat.
Destruction of the underground “room corridor”
On the ground operations front, the Israeli army revealed that forces from the 401st Combat Brigade, operating under the command of the 146th Division, successfully located and destroyed a strategic underground tunnel belonging to Hezbollah.
The military report explained that the tunnel was approximately 80 meters long. It was not merely a passageway, but also contained several fully equipped living quarters for use by Hezbollah’s elite forces during extended operations.
The statement indicated that engineering forces booby-trapped and completely destroyed the passageway after thoroughly inspecting the site. They also collected the necessary intelligence and operational evidence from inside the discovered rooms to ensure the complete neutralization of this threat.
Continued operations with political mandate
The Israeli army concluded its statement by emphasizing that military operations aimed at “eliminating threats” against Israeli citizens and forces would continue intensively.
The statement stressed that these field operations are being carried out precisely according to the instructions and directives of the “political hierarchy.” This suggests a green light to expand engineering and air operations deep into southern Lebanon. The objective is to dismantle what remains of Hezbollah’s border arsenal.
