Berlin – The German government began implementing an emergency economic plan today, Friday, to cut energy taxes on gasoline and diesel. This swift official move aims to contain the skyrocketing prices triggered by Middle East tensions and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Obviously, Berlin has decided to intervene directly in the market to ensure its citizens’ purchasing power doesn’t collapse amidst the global energy crisis raging in May 2026.
