Tehran, Iran – Iran reacted strongly to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, describing it as a “surrender to the Zionist regime,” referring to Israel, according to official media reports.
Tehran asserted that any truce that does not guarantee what it termed “the rights of the people” will not be a lasting solution. It also stressed that military and political pressure should not be imposed as a fait accompli on the parties involved.
It added that the continued tension in the region is a result of “Israeli policies.” It called for addressing the root causes of the crisis instead of merely relying on temporary ceasefire agreements.
These statements come as international efforts continue to solidify the truce in Lebanon and prevent its collapse. Simultaneously, there is a clear divergence in the positions of regional actors regarding how to deal with the recent escalation.
Observers believe that Iran’s stance reflects reservations about the current de-escalation process, given the complexities of the regional landscape and the intertwined interests of various powers. Therefore, the chances of achieving long-term stability depend on broader understandings.
