Washington, DC – Axios quoted a US official as saying that the United States sees no need at present to launch a military operation to invade Kharg Island.

The official indicated that available options allow for effective pressure to be exerted on the island.

This is possible without resorting to direct military intervention.

This statement reflects a strategic approach that relies on unconventional means to achieve its objectives.

It also avoids the risk of escalation in a sensitive region.

A calculated escalation without direct confrontation

The official explained that Washington prefers using non-military pressure tactics, such as economic sanctions

and maritime measures, to impose a new reality on the island.

He added that these tools can achieve tangible results without becoming embroiled in open conflict.

Moreover, they could have broad regional repercussions.

The strategic importance of Kharg Island

Kharg Island is a vital location due to its role in oil exports. This makes it a pivotal point in

any calculations related to global energy security.

Observers believe that Washington’s targeting of the island, even indirectly, could affect oil flows.

Furthermore, it could exacerbate tensions in international markets.

This explains the cautious approach the US has taken in dealing with this issue.

Multiple options are under consideration

The official indicated that policymakers in Washington are considering a range of scenarios

that balance achieving strategic objectives with minimizing risks.

These options include bolstering the naval presence, intensifying surveillance,

and working with allies to exert coordinated pressure.

This approach underscores that the United States seeks to maintain a wide margin of maneuver.

Importantly, it also avoids sliding into a full-blown military confrontation.
