Istanbul, Turkey – Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, affirmed that the Arab region is passing through a highly delicate and dangerous phase, given the escalating threats targeting the security and stability of Arab states. He reiterated his condemnation of the Iranian attacks that targeted infrastructure facilities and civilians in several Arab countries. He also stressed the necessity of adopting a unified and firm Arab stance to address these challenges.
Arab coordination in international forums
Al-Yamahi’s remarks came during his participation in the Arab Group’s coordination meeting within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The meeting, held prior to the start of the General Assembly, included the heads of Arab parliaments and councils. Its aim was to coordinate Arab positions on issues on the IPU’s agenda and to strengthen the Arab presence in international forums.
The Palestinian cause is at a critical stage
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament stressed that the Palestinian cause is going through one of its most dangerous phases. This comes amidst the continuation of Israeli policies and the escalation of violations. He also pointed to the passage of what he described as racist legislation by the Knesset. Furthermore, he noted the expansion of settlements in the West Bank. He also addressed the devastating war and ongoing aggression in Lebanon, which further complicates the regional landscape.
A call to strengthen Arab solidarity
Al-Yamahi emphasized that current challenges necessitate strengthening Arab unity and intensifying joint coordination. He also called for unifying positions within various regional and international frameworks. He noted the Parliament’s full support for the decisions and actions of the heads of Arab councils and parliaments. Furthermore, he expressed the institution’s readiness to play an active role in enhancing Arab parliamentary action at both the regional and international levels. This contributes to protecting Arab interests and confronting escalating challenges.
