Moscow, Russia – Russian authorities announced that a Ukrainian drone targeted the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. This development further escalates tensions surrounding the nuclear facility in southern Ukraine,

which has been under Russian control since the outbreak of the war.

Mutual accusations regarding the attack

Russian sources said the drone targeted the vicinity of the power plant, triggering a security alert but causing no direct damage to vital facilities.

There was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian side regarding the Russian accusations.

Fears of a nuclear threat

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is the largest in Europe. International warnings

about the potential dangers posed by the fighting in its vicinity have been repeated.

Meanwhile, there are ongoing calls to spare it from any direct military operations.

Continued escalation in contact zones

This incident comes amid ongoing military operations between Russia and Ukraine,

with drone strikes and artillery shelling exchanged along the front lines.

This exacerbates fears of a wider conflict and its impact on vital facilities and energy infrastructure.
