London, United Kingdom – The British newspaper “Daily Telegraph” warned in its editorial that the repercussions of the war with Iran have begun to cast a heavy shadow on the British interior,
amid increasing indications of an economic and political crisis that could paralyze the country if the escalation continues.
Sharp gloves on energy prices
The newspaper noted that Britain is facing increasing pressure due to energy supply disruptions and rising prices,
threatening to exacerbate the cost-of-living crisis, especially given the dependence of European markets on stability in the Middle East.
It added that any large-scale military escalation could lead to sharp increases in oil and gas prices,
which would directly impact British citizens, whether in their energy bills or the costs of transportation and basic goods.
The need to protect the domestic economy
The Telegraph noted that the British government finds itself in a complex position,
torn between its international obligations and military alliances on one hand,
and the need to protect the domestic economy and alleviate the burden on citizens on the other.
The newspaper emphasized that the continuation of the crisis
without diplomatic solutions could push Britain into a difficult economic scenario,
characterized by slow growth, high inflation, and increased social pressures.
It concluded its editorial by stressing that the current phase requires political and strategic caution,
warning that sliding into a protracted conflict in the Middle East could have a heavy price to pay domestically.
