Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Ministry of Interior issued a strongly worded statement affirming its commitment to protecting diplomatic missions. It condemned the recent attack on the UAE embassy in Damascus during protests as “reprehensible
and unacceptable behavior,” and a clear violation of national laws and international conventions.
Peaceful protest versus legal violation
The ministry explained in its statement that peaceful protest is “
a legitimate right guaranteed by law as a form of expressing opinion.”
However, it stressed the necessity for these demonstrations to adhere to legal frameworks and remain peaceful.
It also indicated that the attack on the UAE embassy building and the security
personnel protecting it constitutes a violation that cannot be tolerated.
The ministry affirmed that such actions will be met with strict and decisive legal measures.
Security alert and legal prosecution
Immediately after the incident, Internal Security Forces units began reinforcing security measures around all diplomatic missions
and embassies in Damascus, increasing guard to ensure the safety of diplomatic personnel.
These measures also aim to prevent any recurrence of similar attacks.
Furthermore, the Ministry announced the launch of a comprehensive investigation
to apprehend those involved in the attack and bring them to justice.
Warning against compromising the security of embassies
In closing, the Ministry of Interior urged citizens to abide by applicable laws and demonstrate national responsibility,
thereby preserving public security, the dignity of citizens, and the sovereignty of the country.
It warned that any attack on the security of embassies and diplomatic missions constitutes
a violation of Syria’s international obligations and its diplomatic standing.
These developments come amidst a climate of public discontent linked to recent regional events.
Consequently, authorities have raised security alert levels at vital locations in the capital.
