Amman, Jordan – Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, affirmed that Jordan addresses various issues in a manner that serves its national interest and protects its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens. He also emphasized that Jordanian policies are guided by national security priorities amidst regional tensions.

The Iranian embassy’s position

Safadi clarified that the Iranian embassy remains open in Amman, staffed by a chargé d’affaires and several diplomats. He also noted that Jordan had refused to extend the residency permit of one Iranian diplomat. Furthermore, Jordan declined to accredit another, a move reflecting a clear political stance against Iranian policies.

Clear political messages

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stressed that managing diplomatic relations is subject to delicate political considerations. He affirmed that these decisions carry direct messages rejecting practices that threaten Jordan’s security and stability, as well as the security of Arab states.

Conditional openness to dialogue

Safadi noted that Jordan had been open to dialogue with Iran before the outbreak of war, with the aim of building positive relations. However, this was conditional on Iran ceasing policies that threaten regional security. He also affirmed that his country always seeks to promote stability in the region.

Decisions made at the right time

Safadi concluded his remarks by emphasizing that dealings with the Iranian embassy in Amman will remain governed by political considerations. He indicated that Jordan will take appropriate steps at the time it deems suitable, in accordance with its national interests and in line with developments in the regional landscape.
