London, England – In a security development reflecting the widening geopolitical conflict between the West and Tehran, Scotland Yard announced the dismantling of a network linked to Iranian intelligence within London.
The extensive operation, led by the Counter Terrorism Command, resulted in the arrest of four individuals suspected of providing direct assistance to a foreign intelligence service. In addition, six others were arrested on criminal charges related to the same investigation.
Details of the arrests and identities of the suspects
British police have confirmed that the four main suspects arrested face serious charges under the National Security Act. Their identities and nationalities are as follows: one Iranian national was arrested as part of the investigation. There are also three dual British-Iranian nationals. The raids and arrests took place in several strategic locations in north and west London. In Barnet, a 40-year-old man and a 55-year-old man were arrested. In Watford, a 52-year-old man was arrested, while a 22-year-old man was detained in Harrow.
Targeting Jewish websites: The investigation engine
London police revealed that this intensive investigation was launched based on strong suspicions by British security authorities that individuals and locations belonging to the Jewish community in London were being monitored and tracked by operatives working for Tehran. Security sources indicated that the network was gathering intelligence and conducting field reconnaissance of civilian targets and Jewish religious symbols. As a result, concerns were raised about the planning of hostile operations on British soil.
This move comes at a time of escalating intelligence warnings about Iranian attempts to target dissidents or interests linked to its regional rivals in European capitals.
Ongoing raids and expanding the circle of suspicion
Alongside those accused of espionage, police announced the arrest of six other men, aged between 20 and 49, at the same location in the Harrow area. They face charges of “aiding and abetting a criminal,” amid suspicions that they provided logistical support or safe haven to the main spy network. Search and investigation teams are continuing thorough searches at several addresses in Watford and Barnet. Additionally, an operation is underway at a specific address in the Wembley area.
A spokesperson for Counter Terrorism Policing confirmed that “the operations are aimed at protecting the security of the UK and its citizens from any external threat,” emphasizing that the investigation is still in its active stages as all digital and physical evidence is gathered.
Context of escalating tension
These arrests are likely to further inflame already strained relations between London and Tehran, particularly given the growing reports of Iranian Revolutionary Guard activity in Britain.
Observers believe that the discovery of the surveillance of Jewish websites represents a crossing of security “red lines.” This could prompt the British government to take stricter diplomatic or legal measures against entities linked to Tehran.
