Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday that the US embassy in Riyadh was attacked with two drones.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense said in a post on its official X account: “The US embassy in Riyadh was attacked with two drones, according to initial estimates.”
“This resulted in a limited fire and minor material damage to the building,” she added.
Fox News reported that the US embassy in Riyadh “was empty at the time of an Iranian drone attack in which no casualties were recorded”.
Reuters quoted the US Embassy in Riyadh as saying that it recommended that American citizens in Saudi Arabia take shelter in their places.
Agence France-Presse also quoted sources as saying that drones targeted the diplomatic quarter in Riyadh.
Reuters later reported, citing two sources, that two new explosions were heard in the diplomatic quarter of the Saudi capital.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Major General Turki Al-Malik, also announced “the interception and destruction of 8 drones near the cities of Riyadh and Al-Kharj”.
On Monday, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced the precautionary suspension of some operational units in the Ras Tanura oil refinery.
