Baghdad, Iraq – Iraqi authorities announced new sanctions targeting networks suspected of financing ISIS, as well as individuals and entities linked to Hezbollah. This comes as part of their efforts to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and cut off funding sources for armed groups.
The sanctions include financial and administrative measures against the individuals and entities listed. These measures include asset freezes and bans on financial transactions. The sanctions also aim to limit activities suspected of being used to finance terrorist operations or support armed groups.
The relevant authorities confirmed that this step is part of Iraq’s commitment to strengthening its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing system, and to coordinating with international partners to implement international standards for prosecuting illicit financial networks.
The Iraqi government continues to take security and financial measures to pursue extremist organizations and their associated financing networks. This comes within the framework of a strategy aimed at protecting national security and preventing the rebuilding of the financial capabilities of terrorist groups inside or outside the country.
