Washington, DC – The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that the US State Department has approved potential military sales to Israel totaling more than $6.5 billion under three separate contracts. In two separate statements, the Pentagon said the State Department approved a potential sale of light tactical vehicles and related equipment, with an estimated cost of approximately $1.98 billion. It also approved a separate sale of AH-64E Apache helicopters, valued at up to $3.8 billion, according to Reuters.
He added that a third military contract worth $740 million had been awarded, bringing the total value of the three deals to more than $6.5 billion. The Pentagon explained that AM General is the prime contractor for the tactical vehicle deal, while Boeing and Lockheed Martin are the prime contractors for the Apache helicopter sale. He noted that the approvals serve as notification to the U.S. Congress but do not necessarily mean the final deals are complete, as the procedures are subject to subsequent legislative and executive approvals.
