His death came after a struggle with illness, following a recent decline in his health, during which he had been receiving treatment abroad. With his passing, the artistic scene loses one of its most prominent figures, a voice that has expressed love and romance for decades.
Origins and beginnings
Hani Shaker was born on December 21, 1952 in Cairo. The features of his singing talent appeared at an early age, as he participated in children’s programs on Egyptian television, which allowed him his first real contact with the public, and helped him develop his artistic abilities from a young age.
The beginning of the road
He enrolled in the Higher Institute of Music (the Conservatory), where he received specialized academic training that was clearly reflected in his performances. He distinguished himself with his keen sensitivity and mastery of vocal scales. This academic background contributed to shaping his artistic identity, enabling him to present a unique style of singing that blends the authenticity of classical Arabic music with the spirit of modern musical development. His first foray into the world of art came in the 1960s when he participated in the film “Sayed Darwish” in 1966, portraying the character of Sayed Darwish in his childhood. This early experience paved the way for his emergence on the artistic scene.
A rich artistic career
Over many years, Hani Shaker has amassed a vast artistic repertoire of over 600 songs, along with 29 albums, most notably: “The Day is Beautiful,” “Be and It Is,” and “A Name on Paper.” He has successfully established himself as one of the leading stars of Arabic song through widely acclaimed works, including: “The Most Precious Person,” “I Have Nothing Without You,” “The Sweetest Nights,” “Bring Me Closer to You,” “I Love You, My Dear,” “My Wound,” “I Wish,” “The Beautiful Dream,” “Why Don’t We Dream?” “It Wasn’t My Choice,” “What’s Wrong with My Heart?” “Believe Me,” “Point,” “I Adore Your Laughter,” “Without a Reason,” “The Story of Every Lover,” “With You,” and “Love Has No Ruler.”
Experiments in acting
His career wasn’t limited to singing; he also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as “When Love Sings” and “This I Love and This I Want,” and performing on stage in the play “Cinderella and the Praiser.” Hany Shaker assumed the position of head of the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate in 2015. During his tenure, he worked to restore discipline to the artistic community through decisions and measures aimed at regulating the profession and preserving the standards of Egyptian music.
