Manila, Philippines – At least eight people died, and others were injured or are missing, after a passenger ferry carrying 342 people sank off the coast of the southern Philippines. The tragic incident has shocked the local community.

Philippine authorities stated that the ferry sank during its voyage amidst rough weather conditions. They added that rescue teams rushed to the scene and successfully saved a large number of passengers. The search for the missing continues.

The Coast Guard has launched an urgent investigation to determine the cause of the accident, with initial suspicions pointing to either bad weather or a technical malfunction. They also confirmed that the health of the survivors is being monitored and that the injured have been transferred to nearby hospitals.

The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of maritime transport in the Philippine archipelago, where millions of people rely on ferries as a primary means of inter-island transportation.
