Caracas, Venezuela – In his first public statement since his arrest, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro delivered a defiant message, asserting that he is in good spirits and not saddened. He emphasized that he is a “fighter” and will not back down in the face of pressure or attempts to break his will.
In remarks carried by local and international media, Maduro stated that his current situation is “part of a long struggle to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty and the dignity of its people,” adding that his arrest will not alter his convictions or his political course. He further stated, “I am fine, I am not sad, and I know perfectly well why I am facing this challenge.”
He indicated that the current events are part of a regional and international political struggle, intertwined with power struggles and economic and political pressures, emphasizing that his supporters inside and outside Venezuela understand the nature and complexities of this phase. He also addressed a message of reassurance to his supporters, urging them to maintain unity and patience, and not to be drawn into what he described as attempts to “incite chaos and destabilize the country.”
Maduro’s statement comes at a time of escalating political tension in Venezuela, amidst internal divisions and increasing external pressures, making his words a political message aimed at boosting the morale of his supporters and reaffirming his commitment to continuing the confrontation despite the difficult circumstances.
