Brussels, Belgium – The European Union has entered the fray regarding the rapidly evolving situation in Venezuela. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU stands with the Venezuelan people at this historic moment. She affirmed Brussels’ support for a “peaceful and democratic transition” of power in the country.
Von der Leyen stressed that the European Union guarantees full support for European citizens in Venezuela. This comes in light of the declared state of emergency and in response to the events in Venezuela.
Delta Force’s “scalpel” in the heart of Caracas
Alongside the political developments, technical and operational details began to emerge regarding how the Venezuelan regime’s strongholds fell in the early morning hours. Military sources confirmed to CBS News that Delta Force (the elite US special operations unit) led the direct assault. They carried out a highly precise landing under the cover of intense airstrikes targeting the Fort Tiuna military complex and the strategic La Carlota airbase.
US officials revealed that resistance from Maduro’s forces was “virtually nonexistent.” The operation resulted in no injuries or losses among the US forces involved, reflecting the political and military tensions in Venezuela.
An uncertain future and international expectations
The European stance, aligned with the American move, suggests broad international support. This aims to end Nicolás Maduro’s rule, amid anticipation of President Donald Trump’s press conference at Mar-a-Lago, where he is expected to reveal Maduro’s whereabouts. Ultimately, the next steps regarding Venezuela and the management of the transitional phase will be announced.
