Washington, USA – The American city of Minneapolis witnessed a state of traffic paralysis after protesters opposed to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) blocked a number of main roads,

This led to a complete standstill of traffic and disrupted transportation for hours.

This was a protest action that organizers said was in support of illegal immigrants and in rejection of federal deportation policies.

Targeting migrants

According to Fox News, dozens of protesters gathered at key traffic intersections within the city.

Some of them sat on the roads and others stood directly in front of the cars, forcing drivers to stop completely.

The protesters raised banners condemning the deportations and demanding

an end to what they described as the “targeting of immigrants.”

They chanted slogans criticizing ICE and calling for its abolition.

The move angered a number of citizens and drivers who found themselves stuck in a suffocating traffic jam.

This comes amid complaints of disruptions to access to workplaces and hospitals.

The right to peaceful protest

Videos circulated by social media users showed moments of tension between some drivers and protesters.

This comes amid failed attempts to open alternative routes.

For its part, the Minneapolis police intervened to regulate the traffic situation,

and confirmed in a statement that they were closely monitoring the protests.

Emphasizing its commitment to protecting the right to peaceful protest,

while at the same time ensuring that public safety is not endangered.

Authorities have not yet announced any serious injuries, nor have they confirmed

the number of people arrested in connection with the road closures.

Sharp political division

This move comes amid escalating debate within the United States about the issue of illegal immigration.

This comes amid a sharp political divide over how to deal with undocumented immigrants.

And the role of ICE in enforcing immigration laws.

While supporters of the protests see them as a defense of basic human rights,

Her opponents argue that closing roads and disrupting the daily lives of

citizens is a violation of the law and undermines public order.
