Paris, France – A man carrying a knife was killed on Saturday after being shot by French national police in the city center of Ajaccio on the southern island of Corsica.

According to what the public prosecutor of the republic stated, as reported by “France 3 Fiastella” channel,

Security forces intervened after receiving reports about a person posing an imminent danger to passersby in the city streets.

Details of security intervention

In this regard, the public prosecutor explained that the confrontation with the police ended

with the man being shot after he acted in a way that directly threatened the safety of citizens.

Despite the immediate first aid efforts provided to him at the scene of the accident,

he died as a result of his fatal injury.

Accordingly, the security forces imposed a tight cordon around the scene of the incident,

closing the surrounding streets to collect the necessary evidence and data.

Judicial investigation

On the other hand, the competent authorities have launched a broad judicial

investigation to accurately determine the circumstances of the incident;

The investigation aims to determine the extent to which police officers adhere

to the rules for the use of weapons and the applicable legal standards.

Furthermore, the investigation will involve examining surveillance

camera recordings and listening to eyewitness testimonies.

This was to determine the nature of the threat posed by the man before he was shot.

Unknown motives

However, the public prosecutor’s office has not yet revealed the man’s identity

or the motives behind his hostile behavior, stressing that the matter is still under investigation.

At the same time, this incident has reopened the debate in France

about the limits of the use of force by law enforcement agencies;

Especially in cases involving immediate threats with bladed weapons,

which authorities describe as always being done under strict judicial supervision.

Final toll of the accident

In conclusion, security sources confirmed that there were no additional injuries

among either the police officers or the civilians who were present at the scene of the incident.

Therefore, the investigation remains open to uncover all the facts surrounding this incident.

This ensures transparency in dealing with files related to the use of firearms in field interventions.
