The Emirates Environment Working Group launches the "Emirates Alliance for Sustainability in the Hospitality Sector"

Sharjah, UAE – The Emirates Environment Working Group has officially launched the “Emirates Hospitality Sustainability Alliance – EHSA”. This took place during an event held at Coral Beach Resort Sharjah, with the aim of enhancing cooperation between various entities working in the hospitality sector. Supporting the development of measurable environmental performance and unifying efforts and practices related to sustainability at the sector level in the UAE.

A number of hospitality industry leaders, sustainability experts, stakeholders and partners participated in the launch ceremony. Within the framework of an approach aimed at moving sustainability efforts from individual initiatives to collective action and knowledge exchange. Experiences and enhancing shared responsibility.

The establishment of the alliance comes amid a growing need to coordinate efforts among hospitality establishments to address the environmental, economic, and social challenges associated with the sector. Including energy and water consumption, waste generation, food waste, procurement, supply chains, and resource efficiency.

The alliance acts as a specialized platform that connects entities working in the hospitality sector and supports the exchange of good practices and experiences. It encourages innovation and provides opportunities for collaboration in addressing common sustainability priorities.

capacity building

The alliance aims to provide opportunities for knowledge exchange, capacity building, exploring innovative solutions, and identifying areas of cooperation between participating institutions. In addition to developing tools and mechanisms that support continuous and measurable improvement in sustainability performance within the country’s hospitality sector.

It seeks to embed sustainability within operations, decision-making, corporate culture and guest experience. Leveraging the role played by the hospitality sector in influencing the behavior of employees, guests, tourists, suppliers, and community members towards more sustainable environmental practices.

The alliance will expand participation to include, in addition to hotels and hospitality groups, government agencies, suppliers and service providers. Sustainability experts, environmental institutions, academia and other stakeholders across the value chain.
