Abu Dhabi, UAE – The 22nd Liwa dates Festival celebrates the palm tree and its fruits. Through 16 competitions that attract dozens of varieties of palm farms in the Emirates, 210 prizes have been allocated to them. It includes two elite competitions and 7 individual embellishments, as well as “The Biggest Naivet” and “House Fables”. And 3 competitions for model farms, and two competitions, “Creativity from the Palm Trunk” and “The Most Beautiful dates Myth”. The competitions will continue in Liwa city in Al Dhafra region until July 23.
The “Al Dhafra Elite dates” and “Liwa Elite dates” competitions witness a great diversity of commercial dates varieties. The participant in the “Al Dhafra Elite” must submit no less than 15 items, and in the “Liwa Elite” 10 items. Each elite competition was allocated 15 valuable prizes, motivating farmers to present a variety of local and commercial varieties in one participation. He was keen to include rare varieties, recording dozens of diverse varieties in each session.
“House Fables” Competition
During the session, the “House Fables” competition was launched, and 15 prizes were allocated for it. During which the participant presents two types of dates grown and cared for inside the homes of people in the UAE. Weighing 4 kilograms for each item, the competition comes to enhance the status of the palm tree as an authentic national heritage symbol. To encourage community members to plant and care for it.
Individual competitions
The individual dates competitions include 7 categories: Al-Dabbas, Al-Khalas, Al-Fard, Al-Khunaizi, Bomaan, Al-Shishi, and Al-Zamili. For which 135 prizes were allocated, the participant presented two pieces of dates cloth weighing 10 kilograms. The number of palm trees of one variety participating in individual competitions must not be less than 10 palm trees.
The Model Farm Competition also allocated 15 prizes distributed into 3 categories, 15 prizes for the largest model competition, and 10 prizes for creativity from the palm trunk. And 10 prizes for the most beautiful dates fairy tale. In addition to the competitions that celebrate the palm tree, the festival includes seven fruit competitions.
