Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE, under the directives of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has announced $30 million in emergency humanitarian aid to support civilians affected
by the deteriorating humanitarian situation in El Obeid, North Kordofan State, Sudan.
This aid will be delivered through the Emirates International Aid Agency.
Urgent response to the humanitarian situation
The initiative comes amid the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in El Obeid and surrounding areas,
where the needs of civilians and displaced persons for food, healthcare, drinking water, and shelter are increasing.
The UAE stressed the importance of urgent and coordinated humanitarian
action to ensure that life-saving aid reaches those who need it most.
It also emphasized the need to focus efforts, particularly on the most vulnerable groups.
The UAE further stressed that protecting civilians in El Obeid and throughout Sudan is a priority for the international community.
It called on all parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law.
The UAE urged all parties to the conflict to avoid escalating violence
in populated areas and to guarantee safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid.
Confirmation of continued support for Sudan
Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State and member of the Council for International Humanitarian Affairs,
said that this response reflects the UAE humanitarian approach, which prioritizes human well-being.
He affirmed the UAE continued collaboration with humanitarian
and international partners to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
He also emphasized the rejection of politicizing humanitarian work
or exploiting the suffering of the population.
He noted that the total aid provided by the UAE to Sudan since
the outbreak of the crisis has reached approximately US$800 million.
This reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting the Sudanese people and responding to their humanitarian needs.
Support in cooperation with the United Nations
Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the Emirates International Aid Agency,
explained that the new aid comes as part of the UAE’s commitments to supporting humanitarian response plans.
This is being done in cooperation with the United Nations and its partners,
contributing to the provision of food, healthcare, shelter,
and support for refugees and internally displaced persons within Sudan and in neighboring countries.
The UAE reiterated its position that the Sudanese crisis cannot be resolved militarily.
However, it stressed that the priority must be the protection of civilians.
It also emphasized the need to facilitate humanitarian access and de-escalate the conflict.
Furthermore, it affirmed its support for a civilian-led political process
that achieves sustainable peace and preserves Sudan’s unity and stability.
