Evian, France – Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, met with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest,
including developments in the Middle East and the recent US-Iran agreement.
During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the United States to the UAE,
emphasizing the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries and its role in promoting security and stability in the region.
Mutual praise for bilateral relations
The President of the UAE expressed his gratitude to the United States for its continued support,
emphasizing that UAE-US relations represent a model of cooperation and strategic partnership across various fields.
For his part, the US President described relations between Washington and Abu Dhabi as “fantastic.”
He praised the UAE as a “great ally” of the United States. He also stressed the importance of continued
coordination and cooperation between the two countries on regional and international issues.
Trump: The Strait of Hormuz will be fully opened
The meeting addressed the announced agreement between the United States and Iran,
with Trump confirming that the strategic Strait of Hormuz would be fully open by next Friday.
He indicated that transit through the strait would proceed without any fees.
The US president explained that the American administration would announce the details of the agreement
with Tehran through official channels in the coming days.
He also noted that the second phase of the agreement could proceed quickly if all parties adhered to its terms.
The agreement with Iran is before Congress
Trump indicated that the anticipated agreement with Iran would be submitted to the US Congress for review,
emphasizing that its primary objective is to ensure Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.
He also reiterated his criticism of the 2015 nuclear agreement concluded by the administration of former President Barack Obama,
arguing that it provided Iran with a path that could lead to the development of military nuclear capabilities.
He asserted that the new agreement focuses on completely preventing this.
The meeting comes at a time of intense diplomatic activity in the region following the announcement of the US-Iranian understandings.
