Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense system successfully detected and intercepted six hostile drones in the past 48 hours. These drones attempted to target civilian and vital areas within the country. Furthermore, the Ministry also confirmed that the armed forces successfully dealt with all threats with high efficiency. There were no casualties.
The ministry explained in an official statement that air defense forces intercepted and neutralized the drones. As a result, they maintained the highest levels of operational readiness. It emphasized the continued heightened state of alert to protect national security and assets.
Tracking drones coming from Iraq
Regarding the ongoing investigations into the attack that targeted the Barakah nuclear power plant on May 17, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that the results of technical tracking and monitoring showed important findings. Specifically, the drones that were dealt with during the attack were all from Iraqi territory. In addition, the drones that were intercepted later also came from Iraqi territory.
During the previous attack, UAE air defenses successfully intercepted and shot down two drones. The third drone struck a power generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region. As a result, this caused a small fire. No injuries were reported. There was no impact on radiation safety levels.
Confirmation of military readiness
The UAE Ministry of Defense emphasized that the armed forces are fully prepared to deal with any threats targeting the country’s security and stability. In addition, it also affirmed that the UAE possesses the necessary capabilities to counter any attacks on its territory or vital infrastructure.
The ministry also affirmed that the UAE reserves its full right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and national security, in accordance with international laws and conventions.
Security investigations continue
The ministry indicated that technical and security investigations are ongoing to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the attacks and identify those responsible. It also affirmed that the relevant authorities are working in coordination with regional and international partners. This is to monitor developments and enhance the security of the country’s airspace.
