Washington, USA – US President Donald Trump said he was prepared to launch a military strike against Iran. He asserted that the decision was just hours away. This comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program and security developments in the Middle East.

Threats of a possible military strike

In a press statement, Trump asserted that Iran had previously pledged not to pursue nuclear weapons. However, he said Iran had “later changed its position.” He also stated that Tehran is currently attempting to reach an agreement with the United States to avert further escalation. The US president clarified that he might launch a strike against Iran. However, he has not yet made a final decision. He indicated that military options remain on the table should political and diplomatic efforts fail. Trump added that Iran is “begging for a deal.” He emphasized that Washington will not allow Tehran to possess a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.

Criticism of Obama’s nuclear deal

The US president reiterated his criticism of the nuclear agreement concluded by the administration of former President Barack Obama with Iran. He asserted that Tehran was on the path to acquiring a nuclear weapon had the agreement not been withdrawn. He noted US sanctions were reimposed after the agreement was withdrawn. He indicated that his administration’s policies aim to prevent Iran from developing its nuclear and military capabilities. He affirmed that the United States is closely monitoring Iranian activities. Trump warned that Iran’s possession of a nuclear weapon would “explode the Middle East.” He added that it would pose a direct threat to the security of the region and the world. In closing, the US president emphasized that Iran “will not have a nuclear weapon.” He also affirmed the United States’ commitment to preventing this by all available means.
