Abu Dhabi, UAE – Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, co-chaired the seventh session of the UAE-Qatar Joint Higher Committee. The session, held at the Zayed National Museum, emphasized expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
Emphasis on the depth of relations
Both sides affirmed that the convening of the committee reflects the strength of the fraternal ties between the two countries. It also underscores the shared commitment to enhancing cooperation and integration, supported by the leadership of both nations. All of this serves mutual interests and bolsters regional stability.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed noted the growth of non-oil trade between the two countries, projected to reach approximately $13 billion by 2025. This reflects the strength of the economic relationship and its promising future prospects. The importance of expanding partnerships in the energy, transportation, and investment sectors was also emphasized.
Regional challenges and geopolitical pressures
The two sides discussed regional developments, noting the repercussions of tensions in the region. The talks focused particularly on the Strait of Hormuz crisis and its impact on maritime security, supply chains, and the global economy. Both sides emphasized the need to strengthen joint coordination to address these challenges.
The meeting witnessed the signing of several agreements, most notably an agreement on the protection and promotion of investment. In addition, memoranda of understanding were signed in the fields of agriculture, food security, and municipal cooperation. All of these agreements support economic integration and enhance food security between the two countries.
Condemning the attacks and affirming sovereignty
Both sides condemned the attacks targeting civilian sites in the UAE. They affirmed the UAE’s right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and national security in accordance with international law. Qatar’s support for the UAE in confronting these challenges was commended.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the committee’s outcomes. They also agreed to continue joint efforts to develop bilateral relations across various sectors. All of this strengthens the strategic partnership and supports the aspirations of both nations.
