New Delhi, India – The Indian government has strongly condemned the attack targeting civilian facilities in the United Arab Emirates, specifically in the Fujairah region. The attack resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals.
In an official statement issued today, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs described the attacks as “unacceptable acts.” It also deemed them a flagrant violation of international norms protecting civilians and vital infrastructure.
Call for an immediate cessation of hostilities
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement saying, “We call for an immediate end to these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians.”
New Delhi explained that the recurrence of such incidents in a strategic region like West Asia contributes to escalating regional tensions. It also stated that these incidents jeopardize the safety of migrant workers, a significant portion of whom are from India. India emphasized that the attack on Fujairah transcends being merely a military act; it constitutes a direct threat to economic stability. India reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as the only way to address the current situation, indicating that this is the only way to restore lasting peace in the region.
Navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz
The Indian statement did not overlook the economic and strategic dimensions of the crisis, with New Delhi demanding guarantees of “freedom of navigation and trade through the Strait of Hormuz without hindrance.” It also stressed the need to adhere to international law governing traffic in international waterways. India is one of the world’s largest energy importers via this strait, and any disruption to shipping would directly impact its national security and its growing economy.
Preparing for peaceful mediation
The Ministry of External Affairs concluded its statement by emphasizing that India, as a major regional power, is fully prepared to support all international efforts and good offices aimed at peacefully resolving outstanding issues.
It added: “India is committed to working with its regional and international partners to ensure that the region does not slide into further escalation and to create the conditions conducive to sustained security and stability.” These Indian positions come amid growing international concern about the repercussions of the attacks on oil tankers and vital infrastructure in the Gulf. This concern places additional pressure on influential actors to intervene and contain the crisis before it spirals out of control.
